i just have the sudden rush to blog something quick. perhaps just a short update on my life...

its really a lifetime experience, camping in starbucks from 5-12, met really lotsa people that you know (including teachers as well...), getting chased out and threatened to call the security guards by their staffs, desperate to the extent that we actually brought out laptops and sat down on the aisles of the shopping centres at orchard (!?), and even begged the security guard at the loading and unloading bay to let us use the power-point for our near dead laptops, and then clutching our hands in prayer that the wireless sg network doesn't crash at the 12am mark. and thats the 2nd night that i reached home only at 1 am in school uniform....

.thats the opportunity cost involved in business plan competitions
definitely memorable and hopefully worthwhile.

I know it is too late to aplogize but I really have a hectic week coming along such that I may even choose to give up VBC semi-finals. I am not sure if I should, but I will battle to the end no matter what.

Guess everyone is familiar of Leona Lewis ever since her first hit, Bleeding Love, climbed up the US, UK and 98.7FM music charts. But do you actually know that she is the winner of the third series of The X Factor Uk television talent show and her debut album, "Spirit", was not only her fruit of labour, but also includes that of renowned producers like Simon Cowell and Clive Davis and artists like Tedder and Jesse McCartney. I was quite shocked when i read about her past history on wikepedia too. In fact, there are many other wonderful songs inside her album apart from Bleeding Love, which i think you all should give it a try. Here is Better In Time... she has a really good voice.

VBC is a really addictive game! Hahah the game is getting much more intense, fun and really lively! LOL, we can get to trade technologies with other people (lol i got like more than 5 traders), though the human resource is abit crappy and unrealistic. How is it possible for a company to pay like 1 million to a guy who will help you boost your sales by 20%? Freaking crap, just like how we lost last year's VBC. You think those employees are magical gods!?

Anyway i am like stuck in-front of the computer, or more precise the VBC game interface, for like straight 3 hours... zZZ Haha really no mood to start mugging for GP or even the ever crappy Chemistry. We are trying to get use to this new format of VBC and aren't really off to a perfect start. While darren and I are like meng discuss tactic, the other 2 members are stoning in the conversation window- 1 afk and the other talking crap (really talking some crap stuffs as if he is really contributing...) Hope that we can get back in time when everyone is asleep... hehehe =p (tmr sleep in lecture)

Creative in trouble - to sell it's singapore headquarters for 250 million

Creative Technology Ltd., a worldwide leader in digital entertainment products, today announced that the Company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a buyer for the proposed sale and leaseback of the Creative Resource building, which houses the corporate headquarters of the Company and its subsidiaries in Singapore.

The sale price for this proposed transaction is S$250 million (US$180 million), with a leaseback of the whole building for a period of five years with an option for additional periods of three and two years.

The proposed sale and leaseback transaction is conditional upon and subject to certain conditions, including but not limited to, satisfactory completion of legal and building due diligence by the purchaser, the Company's shareholders' approval of the transaction, and applicable regulatory approvals.

The proposed sale of the property constitutes a major transaction under Rule 1006 of the Singapore Exchange Securities Trading Limited Listing Manual and accordingly is subject to shareholders' approval at an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Company (EGM) to be convened at a later date. A circular to the Company's shareholders, together with notice of the EGM, will be dispatched to shareholders in due course. The circular will contain more details of the proposed transaction.

The proposed transaction is expected to be completed by the end of June 2008.

Creative expects to make a gain on sale of the property of about S$200 million (US$144 million) from this transaction. In accordance with US GAAP, this amount will be treated as a deferred gain and will be amortised and recognised in the Company's Income Statements over the lease term of five years.

Creative, possibly one of Singapore's proudest product, seems to be in real big trouble. Sales of its budget MP3s dropped and new MP3 like zen stone looks unappealing to the consumer market. Last year when i made a trip down to it's headquarters at industrial park, they claimed that the company is fine and is making steady profit over the years. But any analyst can easily find the loopholes within their reports. Ever since they won their lawsuit against apple for their patented mp3 interface, they have been facing a drastic decline over the years. They lost their market share in both the mp3 market and the sound blaster market. Hidden behind their ever looking strong branding may just be a crisis-stricken Creative with their frustrated CEO Sim Wong Hoo.

Now, they have released reports that they will be selling their Singapore headquarters - the one which i have been to for quite a couple of times. I really can't understand why a "supposedly profitable company" will be selling its headquarters. Well, there is a very high possibility that they are really in deep deep trouble...

Some questions to ponder...

1) Are they really in need of this big sum of money to turn against the odds?
2) Selling the headquarters is just a temporary solution to generate capital since the property market is very hot right now and the building can fetch a relatively high price.
3) Do you think it is a right strategy to sell the headquarter?

Well, i have been observing the creative 50 stock in SGX recently, hoping to earn another sum of money. =) Hahaha, just waiting for it to drop below the 6 dollar mark and it will be time to enter the market. (i am desperate for money!!! i want my macbook!)

the third math class test is probably the most confident test of the year, hopefully at least for now. Unlike the previous 2 disastrous tests planted with numerous traps (they are meant to kill!), this test is relatively more of a breeze. No major hiccups and there is still sufficient time to check the answer through =).

BUT BUT BUT i still have a careless mistake for question 2!!! Oh freak... I mistaken the question as the normal to the curve instead of the tangent! Oh crap, no full marks for math, but lets pray then it can be my first A of the term.

start-up boot camp ended and it was a great experience interacting with competitors and learning from successful entrepreneurs. no doubt it is time well spent, it also indicates that it is time to focus on my academics.

Yi Foong was saying, "You so good, got so many competitions and stuffs." But too many commitments is also one of the key pitfalls last year. I took back my O'levels and Year 4 grades lsat friday, and i can only hung my head in disgrace. Well, some may say that secondary 4 grades are nothing, forget about it and focus on A'levels. But the truth is that people are way ahead of you by the time you start to catch up.

I seriously need to devote my time to studies, and things have to be completed from this moment onwards. Few hours left before the start of a disastrous week, yet again....

i just wish that time could stop at this moment for me to take a break, for me to finish my projects, for me to catch up with piles of lecture notes and tutorials. With the gradual increase in pressure from a whole wide range of commitments, i just feel like collapsing.

Anyway i just came back from NUS Business school for the start-up semi-finals boot camp. The lectures was rather interesting, the finance was dry, networking makes new friends. I will be there for the whole day again tmr... and i am clueless how to catch up with academic stuff at this rate.

These are the latest updates with regards to the highly anticipated election results for the 35th student council. They are plenty of "duhs!" (obviously will get in), as well as surprises (expected to get it but didn't, or black horse that got in). So here i am, analyzing the latest list of results for those who are completely unaware of this latest news.

Starting from the APOLLO Faculty.

1. Darren Wong failed to get it despite his attempt to lip sing umbrella. =(
2. A brave attempt to run by the iParty but none manage to reach the finishing line
3. Shocking news as the ex-chairman of 4A, Wei Sheng, failed to get it. Instead the guy seating beside him, bridge-master Martin Widjaja, entered council!
4. Howard Chiu became the smallest councilor ever!
5. Others selected councilors for Apollo will include the norms like Dominic, Alfred, Qi Han, Jeremy Ang, Terence and IVAN.

Next up is the ARES Faculty (unexpected results indeed.)

1. The first big surprise is that NONE FROM THE HIV team got into council.

2. Great Investor LGK failed to appeal to Aresians, making a lose of few hundred bucks.

3. The best treasurer, Jia Jia, failed to secure his spot. Instead the 2 other Jia(s) entered council, namely Jia Chen and Jia Wei.

4. BOOM looks impressive but only the most enthusiastic and smart looking Zhao Bo (bobo) entered council.

5. Despite being labelled as arrogant, Khang Wen entered council.

6. Yu Meng failed to become a candidate for fac head.

7. Lotsa of random people, whom many didn't vote for, entered council surprisingly.

I am not sure about Artemis and Athena but the results look quite fine to me. If you wanna know more, check the results here. The results, especially ARES, looks really unconvincing to me. There are inside news that some candidates have been selected as "confirmed" councilor even before campaigning. Is that really democracy?

Hundreds of dollars and weeks of effort is worth it for those who made it to the end and entered council. But for the rest, i am sorry to say that...

Fret not, this isn't a fictional story; it is a true first hand information.

Relishing the Chingay Days...

The F1 car first featured on Singapore tracks during this year Chingay 2008. It was one of the star performers for the night, or instead 2 nights (rehearsal and actual day), and the piercing sound made me deaf for near 5 minutes. It was a great experience to have a live view of the F1 car and to witness it zoomed past you in lightning speed when you are just directly standing behind the barricade. I can only say the car was beautiful and the swerve and drift was awesome.

First up is HIV: BE INFECTED! They really put in lotsa effort into this video but unfortunately due to technical difficulties, they can play the whole video on Friday. So they actually put it up on YouTube, spam the urls on msn, and hope you guys can really cast your vote for them!

Have you seen the new double decker sbs bus?

I am sure most of you have at least boarded the new series of single-deck SBS buses, with the most common being 174 for me.

But what about a new double decker SBS bus?
well, it is the first time for me ...

Let me introduce you to some of the new add-on features which you may like to take a closer look when you board the new double decker sbs bus.

Tada, the first think that caught my attention is this glowing green electronic detector on my way to the 2nd deck. On a closer look...

53 seats available!? I guess this is a really cool function for commuters like us, who always find it a hassle to make a trip to the 2nd deck only to find that they are no seats available and have no choice but to make your way down again. But some questions to ponder...

How does this detector work? A detector over every seat like how car park systems work? And does the 53 seats refer to the second deck or the whole bus?

So we make our way up, and find a totally new layout!

There is no longer 2 straight rows of seats, but instead at the end of the deck, there are 2 rows that face each other and a vacant space in the middle. Seats are also change to yellow colour ones and the walkway is also slightly more spacious.

I was asking myself...

what is the point of making a vacant space in the middle when commuters cannot stand on the 2nd deck? Instead, we can actually fill the space with more seats by adapting the old layout...

The new design proves to a refreshing makeover from the previous one, but i am not sure if it is a really practical. Judging from the seats arrangement, lightings, type of seats and interior design of the bus, undoubtedly, it definitely looks better than the previous dull looking design, at least from my point of view. Well, there is always a debate of Aesthetic Design VS Function. And i always hold on to the belief that function/practical is always the fundamentals, and aesthetic design should always come later.

So do you think that the new designed SBS bus is a really practical makeover, or does it helps to solve problems like congestion and the lack of seats? I don't really find any new improvements, except that there are fewer seats, and more standing space.

thanks for your concern but i am quite fine now after spending a really good, good friday outside. =)

no CC= clean tombstones, but i had great fun as the day progresses. my dad talked to me and he said, "since ah ma so old already, you don't expect me to scold her right? just accept it, she is like that..." yeap, i guess the f*** really spurted out of anger and i think i should be more forgivable. she is still the kind grandmother of mine who brought me up from young. Let the matter rest and life still goes on...

Before i go to bed, i decided to showcast some really funny videos that i have been watching since last year december holidays. YouTube videos really became my everyday source of entertainment, especially 小豬&小鬼娛樂百分百 on Channel U (5pm-6pm). LOL i was surprised that there are also other classmates like lala, weekian and others who also enjoyed this programme too. I assure you, it is really damn funny. (though it is meant to be a entertainment news programme).

Since there is something really great, why not i share it with everyone else? I believe it can make your day! Lesson of the Day: Never assume stuffs.

Assumption is deadly.

You may be wondering what happen to me today... why actually drove me to wake up early in the morning of a public holiday and conclude the lesson of the the day is never to assume stuffs. This isn't a procrastinated post, the TODAY i am referring to is INDEED TODAY. Just in the space of 1 hour plus, i was freaking pissed off.

Our high school principal always mentioned his trademark phrase, "thats an assumption!", and up to today while i am on the other side of the campus, i still missed his really suave way of replying student's bombardment of arguments.

Mr Samuel Lim also likes to say "you can never assume stuffs when you are planning!". Now, i agree that assumption is deadly, and old folks always assume stuff and insisted that their assumption will turn true despite knowing that chances are low... They are really stubborn, and i don't understand why they just don't bother to validate their assumption although what it takes is just a phone call.

I agreed to be dragged out of the bed early in the morning today because i promised my grandmother that i will be following them to (扫墓= clean tombstones).

Well, i thought it will be great to experience how ppl 扫墓 , and since today was a public holiday, why not? Despite facing against all odds (no one believed that i will wake up =p), i crawled out of the bed and my dad fetched us to some relative house. Up to this point, i am completely unaware that i may face the possibility of elimination from survival.

It was until when we reached our destination and my grandmother started grumbling that i can only go if there are 2 cars- and she insisted that there will be despite being aware that there is only one car for the previous few years. So what happen was

we reached there,
saw there is only one car,
they alighted,
and asked my dad to fetch me home ...

i was like

WT(F)!

I always believe that life isn't a game of luck when you assume and predict stuffs that will happen. What's the difference between gambling and life then? Assuming stuffs only make things complicated. It fills up life with question marks, and only when you validate these assumptions, will questions marks be replaced by exclamation marks. Imagine your whole essay be vandalized with red ink question marks if there is nothing but assumptions. Sometimes, getting hard core facts right is very important.

haha you may find some resemblance to the post in the class blog, but this is part of the plan to keep my blog alive! haha ok i shall update on some snippets of my life- a rather short post before i doze off on bed. yeap, i have been having irregular sleeping cycles this week because of the disastrous maths test (lol i realize i really screwed it when kh shed some light on the answers in his blog), chemistry test, and other stuffs like BBI learning package.

Anyway first on the list is the class t-shirt design.

personally, i aren't really pleased with the design because it justs didn't meet my expectations... after all it is just a draft and i guessed that the final product will be much much much different from this.

Second is the ILP Video.

Yea, i finally manage to get it up on YouTube, so for those who missed or will like to have a good laugh again, you can watch it now! Hahah so sad that our video isn't featured during the ILP closing ceremony, but we still firmly believe that ours is still the best! =) ENJOY!

Next up is blogskin design.

I have received emails asking me when will next blogskin be launched. Initially i set a date for myself- march holidays. but you know i always don't keep to deadlins =p, so perhaps i can get it out by this long weekend? haha hope so =)

Lastly, it is the music playlist!

LOL, i guess my blog is moving towards the direction of not only my life, but also designs and good music! Hahaa, a reader from India actually tagged that he enjoyed the songs, especially MY WAY! haha, i was surprised, so is samuel. =) but anyway, there is a good sign that people actually enjoyed the songs updated in my playlist. i will continue to share more really good music that i liked, while trying to squeeze out time, like now, to update on my life.

Holidays always seem to past like a breeze...

I agree that time do run at different speeds.

Subconsciously, it seems to past like a breeze when you enjoy it, while it seems to tick second by second when you dread it. Although scientifically it may not be the case, you will tend to believe once you experienced it. Its true.

March holidays may just be one week short, but come to think of it, it can be made much more fruitful. Yeap, humans only know how to regret later but not cherish it earlier. Thats the case for me as well. One week has passed and things that i planned to do seem to be left unchecked. Last day of holidays and we suddenly come to a realisation that things are not done!

I thought....

"Why can i just sit down and mug for a few hours everyday? Just a few hours, and thats sufficient!"

Argh, i hate myself. Just the same old jeremy. Actually, i did try to mug and finish up stuffs, but those are the stuffs that should be supposedly finished last term. So in other words, i am actually FINISHING what others HAVE FINISHED -.- So really nothing proud of it.

TERM 2 will welcome us back with maths test on tuesday, ~~and rumours that there will be chem lecture test and math lecture test as well.~~ PLEASE NOTE THE WORD RUMOURS. =p Have to really start mugging hard for math test because i haven't touched it yet! ZOMG. My S.I.I.S is really gonna kill me if i fail it. Hhaha i shall keep S.I.I.S a mystery for now. wait until i top the class then i can claim to be a proud member. LOL.

Lots of stuff to update but i just cant squeeze them into one post. I don't really wish to drag it on and on, and make it seem as if it is an emo post before the start of term2. We should always try to be optimistic and look at the bright side of life isn't? Term 1 is just like an introductory term to JC life, and it isn't that packed with activities, competitions and projects. Minus orientation and time to settle down, in fact we only have a few weeks of real academic lectures and tutorials.

Come to think of it, i can really foresee how torturous term 2 life will be.

Sianz, how sad is it to have a wet holidays. I am finding holidays more boring than ever. 3 days down the (flooded) drain, and nothing much has been done...

When i was young, i always love rainy days- the smell of rain just keeps me refreshed and cool. But now, i begin to abhor it- especially when it rains continuously no matter rain or shine. Sounds rather contradicting but it does rain when it looks bright and warm and the weather forecast reported that it will continue to rain for the WHOLE WEEK! The weather is really unpredictable these days... disaster.

On sunday, i was back playing tennis at about 4pm. It was scorching hot then and i can barely see the green ball on the court. Played for 15 minutes and it was really bad. How am i suppose to hit an invisible ball? Then i switched sides with my sister, and things start to get better... The sky starts to dim down, and i thought "phew, that's much better". But all of a sudden, black clouds hovered the court and it started pouring...

Holy shyt, thats the start of a wet holiday season!

Next day, jonathan, ~~chou~~ chong and i was supposedly planning to play tennis but it rains (again)- this time so heavy that i can't even get out of the house. So we decided to play on the next day instead. The weather was pretty fine on tuesday, and i walked to bus-stop thinking "oh finally i can get to play some real tennis".

I was waiting for the bus patiently, and then a call came...

Jonathan: Hey i think you better don't come now, it started raining again and the court is rather wet....

*bus 61 came*

Jeremy: omg really? my bus just came!!!

Jonathan: yea i think you better don't come. next time then play ba haha

Disappointedly, i started to make my way back and the rain starts to pour.....

I am sure no one can find the link between these 2 issues just by observing from the surface. Seriously, there are worlds apart; One is a reputable political leader while the other is one of the richest football club. So the question is

A Question worth pondering:

Are they really resting Van Der Sar for the "important" matches to come? I am assuming that manchester united pulled off Van Der Sar simply because they believe that there aren't many chances for Portsmouth, so might as well let Kuszcak play. I can't find any reason why a manager will substitute a goalkeeper at half-time when he is not even injured!

Screw my ipod touch!

Holy shit... Really bad news.

As you may have know, i have jailbreaked my ipod touch after downgrading to 1.1.1 firmware. My ipod touch won't be that perfect if not for the jailbreaking masters and the programmes that come with it. I seriously can't imagine an 100% pure authentic ipod touch with just safari, music, and video in it. No more really intriguing games like snooker, izoo, puzzles and really useful functions like the portable dictionaries.

And 5 minutes ago, i just did the most stupid thing i have ever did. It seems that everything just changed back to before in just 5 minutes- my ipod touch is back to its ancient state. ZOMG!? i can't believe what i just did. i thought it was just like any other normal updates for iTunes and i just clicked yes and brushed it off my mind. it wasn't until i saw my ipod touch refreshing and updating that i realize i made the gravest mistake of the year!

Anyway life in Hwachong isn't really of to a great start. I am not sure if you call it a blessing in disguise or what. But i do believe that history do repeats itself: i fell sick again (ON A BIOLOGY TEST). Is it really pre-destined? Last year, i missed the bio class test and was forced to cap it at 70%, and this year, i was sick again. It wasn't a great experience lying down on the bed, feeling restless and dead for more than 12 hours. really zZZ!

Anyway i am feeling better now. Thanks to my grandmother and family for taking care of me, and not forgetting those who showed me your concern. The last thing on the list before March Holidays is the disgusting biology re-test. Hope i can at least salvage a pass for that....

After which, the march holidays will just be a week to catch with lot's of academic stuff while trying to have fun. I know it a really hard combination, but just have to bear with it.

although i might not have blogged for a near 1 month, i still do frequent other people's blogs- be it friends's or pingsters. So i came across this blog recently who openly challenged me anyone to beating her speed test high score- 59 word per minute.

spurred by curiosity, i took the test myself and guessed what:

It's a really interesting online application to test your typing speed. Instead of doing really lame stupid stuffs like chosing an english comprenhension passage and challenged my sister to see who typed more words, the speedtest is easy and helps you to type faster too. Before the pressure starts pilling up with tutorials and tests, i shall wrap the the whole NUS attachment up asap.

In my 5 day attachment, the lecture on Lightning Protection is by far the most interesting and entertaining one. I am not sure if those students in the engineering faculty might have attended his lecture but one thing you must know is that he laughs in a really comical way throughout his presentation. He will go like...

"you see even the cows got struck by the lightning when they are taking a cover under a tree"

guess what i have been doing for the past few hours? not those normal routines of gossiping, lame chatting, reading blogs and stuffs... could you believe it? i actually spent 1+ hours watching macworld 2008 launch video!

I am utterly impressed by Steve Job's presentation skills- definitely unparalleled. Nothing sort of LKY's speech wheh you can literally fall asleep in the NUS Cultural Centre, nothing sort of the Mr. Ang's speech where you will be entertained by his unique ascent when he welcomed you to the hwachong family. Even when i watch it on my ipod touch, i can say on the whole, the presentation was impressive, entertaining, visually appealing and awe-inspiring.

i am sure almost all of you may have heard of the launchof Macworld 2008 with news splashed over channel 5, channel 8 and CNA. i heard people looking forward to the new big thing for 2008 in ping.sg and i heard my sister waking me up from my afternoon nap just to ask me watch the news for macworld today. if you are still completely unaware of what i am talking, watch it here.

4 key points in Steve Job's presentation. Nothing really strikes my attention because i didn't

1. own an iphone (lol it's tentative)

2. i don't buy music and movies from iTunes

3. i don't own an iMac (not because i don''t like them, but it is not time yet)

4. i am not unfazed by his incredible ipod touch package for USD20 when its free software upgrade for iphone. I can get much more by jail breaking it instead... why bother to pay that price?

It's not really that impressive until he unveiled his 4th item on the list, the world's thinnest laptop- the MacBook Air. Yeap, it just in the air. Anywhere, everywhere...

Actually, he packaged as if it is going to be the next big hit for apple but apparently, it isn't really special except for its size. standing from the technology point of view, it just like any other typical mac or even PC(s).

He stressed on the principle of convienience, mobility and portable when showcasing this new representative product, but in fact, it uses 1.60 GHZ core 2 duo (which has been in the market for quite some time), 2 GB RAM (quite normal for those computer freaks) and wireless technology (which even my 1 year old laptop has).

So what's the big craze over macbook air? some maybe crazy over the fact that you can actually put it in an envelope, which apparently, i failed to put mine in. it's amazingly small to put the same set of technology in a very limited space, but that's all what Macbook air can offer?

In summary, are you willing to pay the extra 600+ bucks(priced at 2.6+k) for the "mobility, portability" of this apple's new product?

i am not sure if it is a hint that i am fated for a new phone, but my SE phone starts to break down these few days. i am sure most sony ericsson phone users have experienced frequent random shutting down of phone. normally, i will tend to ignore it since it occurs around once in few days.

but recently, what really irritates me is that it just shuts down randomly, few days in a day! kns, sometimes it can even shutdown when i was trying to unlock the phone... zZZ Sony Eriksonn phones are indeed infamous of auto shutting down...

my phone back cover even drop on the bus today, showing signs that it is time to change a new one. hahah, my phone is approaching its death and may leave my anyday...

what a screwed up day

argh crap, sunday was supposedly my big day when i launch my first blogskin but things were not on my side after the tennis session at chou's house....

*cough, cough, cough* the virus came knocking at the door.

i was still pondering how did my classmates get sick so easily for the past 2 weeks, with a handful of people either on MC or nearly struggled to death by a sore throat. and i finally get to experienced it myself, days after the end of orientation... GG-ed

I was like OMG, and it was 8pm at that time. how am i suppose to find a replacement late in the night? i have no choice but to wear my Sec2-3 specs, with sore throat, and "crawled" to school. luckily the pace was fast enough to cross the 30cm mark =) phew, still no demerit point for now...

and if you do realise, i got myself a haircut today after my mum has been bugging me since the start of the year. it was horrendously short when i put on my specs to check, but it was all too late... LOL, but at least it looks much neater and the hair will grow back to the optimum length in 3 weeks, just in time for Chinese New Year.

just got myself a new frame, and the optician took only 15 mins!!! haha yea...

hwachong orientation ended with a big bang!

the past 2 weeks is really full of fun&adrenaline. as this year orientation, Jumpstart, suggests, the orientation really makes the entrance to college life looks majestic and optimistic. Bunch of reallly great seniors, whether is it the councilors, the 07 senior batch, or even the grand grand senior, who welcomed us with open arms and the school spirit really hits the climax yesterday night.

i can only say that the council really did a great job in organising this event for the College 1 batch, and its proud to note that it is way better than other JCs which may have started their lessons earlier this week.

whether is it with the orientation group (OG10) or with the class CT(08s78) whom i will be with for the next 2 years , i enjoyed the time thoroughly. =) We had dinners together, the whole team got wet together, we joked among ourselves, played lame games together, and cheered on top of our lungs.

war games yesterday was really violent, and it simply reminds of those rough rugby games when teams will form defensive walls, get the whole body really muddy ~~and wet~~, and the ultimate aim of the game is to get ~~water bombs~~ the ball over the line. although we didn't win the game (athena won), the fac spirit of ARES will always be burning in our hearts. ARES simply pawns! while apollo will just reminds me of the elitism ispark from high school....

after which, was the campfire- the grand finale. ARES pawn the night with the most impressive fac dance and performance! the spirit was also so high then we keep cheering and chanting the A-A-A res! ARES rocks on!

yesterday marks the end of the orientation. although it rained last night, but it didn't dampen our high mood. although it is supposedly to be a full stop to the lotsa fun and a beginning to a vigorous academic life, we still gave it all out. its my first time witnessing the fireball campfire session in hwachong despite hearing much of it. it was really cool as the fire warms up the inner plaza for a round of sing/song/cheer session. the whole school went really high!!

its was super duper ultra mega FUN!!!

its sad to note that the nightmare of lectures and tutorials will make their debut next week....

My first response was WHAT!? you actually wanna do an interview when i don't really blogged nor know much about this advertlets issuse except the fact that adverlets homepage was down as they failed to renew their domain before it expired on 3rd Jan. I guess almost bloggers, especially pingster and innit users, apparently should know after it turned out to be one of the hottest topic for the start of 2008.

I took up the offer, but to realise that i can't find the time to do a phone interview with him as im cooped up in school for orientation, and outing after that, almost everyday since school reopen. so i opted for the e-mail interview instead, but again, failed to complete last night as i was dead beat after OG outing.

So today, i decided to get it done and over with- pen down my 2nd cents worth on this issue, and whether or not will it be featured in NEW Paper, it's totally another issue. I am just honoured that a reporter actually contacted me for that short little paragraph of resentment that i wrote against Advertlets. LOL...

Don't expect really in-depth views as my white hat information on this issue is rather limited...

I started putting advertlets advertisements on my blog since last year november holiday as i thought it waws no harm adding another source of revenue for me. Plant the equired advertisement units in a corner of your blog, and cash will naturally flow into your accounts without really bothering if there are any advertising opportunities.

Although there is a constant flow of income per day depending on the number of visitors for your blog, the ammount accumulated is rather minimal. Over the past few months, i have only managed to salvage a pathetic sum of $5 dollars.

I discovered the site went down hours after news broke out that Josh Lim and his assoiciates failed to renew the domain for advertlets.com I was rather angry when the screwed-up advertlets code for their advertising units actually link all blogs with advertlets advertisements to a random parking webpage where it is clearly stated that the domain for advertlets.com has expired.

just like any affected user, i will reallydoubt the professionalism of advertlets as a regionally recognised company at least within the blogosphere. Trivial stuffs like renewing domain has always been our basic responsibility to ensure that the website is up and running. I think that it is fault on their part, and there are no excuses that can atone for their sins.

the first thing i did was to remove all advertlets units so as to ensure that the faulty source code doesn't link all my readers to the expired advertlets.com Over the past few days, advertlets have made several updates of their progress in renewing their domain but the problem is messages don't get throught to the readers.

They made announcements like the problem has been partially solved on their homepage, but we can't even view them! I understand they created a alternative blog too but not many are aware of its presence. the best solution would be channeling messages through e-mails and at the same time, ensure that the problem is solved within a day or so. I don't understand why it takes around 2 whole days for advertlets to renew their domain.

after this whole incident, i believe that on the part of PR of Advertlets.com, they should just give a sincere apology to all affected users, and come out with a compensation package to all their loyal members for their loss of income in these 2 days and hopefully some enticing value packages that can allow us to earn more revenue =)

lol things is getting real wild for orientation. lots of wacky stuffs come along "on and off" (lol sounds like soccer on-off pitch) orientation, and i totally enjoyed the fun times with my OG. although today isn't suppose to be really high due to the slots of lectures in the morning, its was really mad after orientation "officially" ended at 6pm.

went for dinner at around coronation and the atmosphere was pretty dry at that point of time. nothing much to chat with tiannie and xiaohui. started with some random stuffs like class combinations, cca, friends, classes and those general topics you can think of.

after dinner, they wanted to play games like zhong ji mi ma, and the loser will eat the ice immersed in curry =.= lol can't imagine how it tastes like, eh! the waitress even look at us with queer-looking eyes when we asked them not to remove the bowl of curry and even requested for another cup of ice. she was like,

HUH!?
what a weird bunch of hwachong students...

In the end, we were asked to leave the restaurant as they claimed that there were reservations. yea right, there isn't a single soul other than our bunch of weird ppl.

we then set off to macdonalds for some chit-chat and played games as well. forfeits are really mind boggling like....

1. Calling the ~~dance ICs (failed; unable to get throught)~~ songs IC and propose to them like i really love you, please merry me... LOL

2. Really lame stuffs like- put on 5 watches on the hand and ask the macdonalds manager in a really serious tone

"excuse, what's the time now?"

LMAO!

3. Dance in front of the Macdonalds cashier with aimplified music? LOL thats what our OGL zong ying did. Luckily, most of the people there are from hwachong.

4. Pole-dancing with a tree. LOL, this is damn funny because we are like keeping a lookout for any random guy walking pass macdonalds, in case our foolish act is caught by any member of public. And claire actually pole-danced with a synthetic tree!

All in all, it was really fun today and the dreaded thing is that we have to depart as an OG tmr. its really sad when there are no more fun games and the battle with tests and exams are beginning to start. last outing tmr....

1) I will be launching my first blogskin tmr 8th January. It symoblises a brand new start to the year, to skinlusion, and my new road with my CT. =)

2) I have also been approached by a reporter for my views on the advertlets issue. lol, its rather surprising but i have decided to give my 2 cents worth. will update again.

back to the topic- after the "rare trip" to gym, my family went out for dinner at JEC and do some grocery shopping as well. while i was making my way from JEC to NTUC, i was shocked to find this amazing cart sale...

finally had a good sleep ever since school reopen, phew!... yesterday (+ yesterday, due to advertlets error) night, OG10 went out for OG dinner after the day of orientation which ended at around 6pm. It was another day of fun, though we failed to maintain our winning streak. But fret not, we may not be the leaders any more but we still belong to the top of the table =)

initally, we are completely clueless as to where we want to have our OG dinner. Some nearby prime locations like KAP, Coronation Plaza, Bukit Timah Food Centre prompted out during the discussions, but we still cant decide on one in the end. In the end, the best solution would be to

take bus 174/171 down orchard road
and
alight anywhere we deem fit.

I was damn tired by the time orientation ended and my mood was dampened even before OG dinner. After 20 minutes of random chatting on the bus, we alighted at Plaza Singapura and at that time, we still have no destination in mind! But nvm, we will still stick to the principle of stopping anywhere we deem fit!

One floor by one floor, the escalator moves....

We are like one of the first few leading the way of a bunch of lost sheeps. So yun heng suggested, eh why not the kopitiam food court? And out of no where, they started making our way into the small inner corner and call it our OG gathering =.= LOL, what an innovative place to have OG dinner.

but the location was still a great place to have a good chat, and the food was worth trying. the indonesian riverside bbq food was indeed marvelous- my virgin try. i only managed to get a taste of its grilled chicken (lol don't expect me to eat 2 plates for dinner mah) and its was wholly awesome.

The curry sauce + rice was IMBA, and the grilled chicken with black sauce just melts in my mouth. MUCH better than my mum's LOL

After which, we sat there and chat in our split groups due to the arrangement of the tables (can't expect us to rearrange rit? =p), and zong ying came along later. We had a good chat about high school school life, and things to expect in JC. And 1 shocking stastics that you may have not know-

80% of the cohort failed Biology in the promo exams last year

At first i thought i heard wrongly, 80% as 18%, but IT WAS REALLY 80%! GG-fied, so that means as long as you pass your exams (E and above), you are considered the cream of the crop. WOW! i can't imagine what is life for the months to come.

4 of us left at around 9pm and headed towards the MRT station. i was particularly disturbed by this couple walking in front of us. the guy has a pervertic face,

LOL this is just a random pervert face.

while the woman dressed like a whore in geylang with damn short mini-skirt.

And the disgusting thing is that while they walk, the guy will take the opportunity to touch her from the waistline... down to her butt-

since the signs of breaking down during the end of last year, i have yet to make a full post on whats going on in my life. The first post for the years was written for recruit.net and i hope they can give me the best new year present i can ever get- apple iphone!

I know people are saying since you have an ipod touch, why do you need a iphone- which people tends to define as ipod touch with calling function. but the point is since there is this opportunity, why not grab it? maybe i will just lose few hours of sleep and take a nap during lecture on the following day =p

I didn't really do a review on year 2007, but i can only say that its my most eventful year during my 4 years in high school. some obvious people may detest me, just like what they did today (showing how immature they are till today), but i'm perfectly fine with it. i have been told since young that they are just making a fool out of themselves. keep silent and they will stop naturally. *actually it wasn't they, it was just a few, which i don't feel obliged to name their names out. *

rewind to 2007. i guess the biggest change in my life was to know how to grab hold of opportunities. I still remember what Paddy Tan said... it is important to be open and dare to go out and try- whether be it business or daily life.

It all started when i plucked up my courage to go for the Mediacorp attachment during 2007 December holidays, and it was followed by a string of events such as VBC, 13th SLC, NUS Arts Quiz, Greenwave, Project Work, ThinkQuest, Hainan Immersion programmes, NUS ECE Attachment, SYPC and many others....

2007 was one of the most fruitful year where i learn a lot beyond the classroom and experience a different kind of life. It was also the year where i started devoting time into blogging and creating blogskins as well. As i reflect back, i have indeed reached my target of improving my English. Thou it wasn't really that good as of now, but at least, Mrs.Lee said she saw my improvement from Secondary 2 to Secondary 4. =)

But there are definitely some major regrets as well.

The most prominent one would be my academics. Perhaps due to over committed with other stuffs, i am not the mugging type who feels perfectly fine mugging for the whole day. Maybe its time to switch back to this mode after orientation but i have to admit that i don't like, but i must.

Secondly, NAPHA. I simply can't find my breakthrough after 4 years, or in fact 6 years since primary school. I NEEDA SPEND MORE TIME TRAINING! Argh! Just hate it when i think of NAPHA and the devastating moments of failure. Come on, i am gonna do it this year, hopefully with the help of tennis =)

2007 was history & 2008 is present.

These 2 main problems are the worrying issues that will haunt me in 2008. I don't wish to draft our another list of new year resolutions since statistics have proven that only approx.10% of people actually fulfilled their resolutions.

Brand new year in JC, and i hope it will be a good year with new school, new friends and new life. Orientation still tore me into pieces today despite a long rest last night. GTG now, and see you juniors tmr at high school. I am going back to meet Mrs.Har and maybe will drop by for your EP3 orientation =)

As promised, i will be betting my luck on the recruit.net contest to win apple iPhone. Perhaps one of the last few entries to squeeze into the gantry, i hope you can spend some time reading through some of my personal suggestions for recruit.net

I did some preliminary studies on my competitors (=p) and one said it is a waste of money to put up 1.5k worth of cash prizes to get suggestions for the company; instead he suggested to employ someone instead. but i do hope you can change this mindset after reading my entry. LOL

My first impression of recruit.net

For me, i wasn't aware there is this thing called recruit.net until it appeared on ping.sg I am sure many of you would have know those really hard core competitors of recruit.net like jobsDB and jobscentral, etc. Just like these listed examples, recruit.net helps to find suitable jobs like you and I.

The first problem i have identified when i started my journey to explore recruit.net was the lack of publicity.

How is it possible for everyone to know recruit.net with ping.sg? Most probably, i am wrong for this point, but what i will like to bring to your attention is the lack of awareness among the public. Hence highlighting the need to throw in more funds into advertising.

Suggestion:

As advertising in newspapers and television is not really that cost-effective relative to its high price, i suggest that we advertise on buses and taxis instead.

Imagine these buses

& taxis

with recruit.net advertisement running on the streets... it will definitely catch the attention of the members of the public, hence drawing more viewership for recruit.net

Secondly, it will be great if recruit.net can organise a RECRUIT.NET JOBS FAIR

It will be a good route to choose as it is both an opportunity for employers and job applicants to meet at one location and an avenue to publicise recruit.net People will get to know more about how recruit.net functions and how it can help them find a suitable job as well.

Apart from publicity, i believe there is a strong need to tranform recruit.net current homepage. In my personal opinion, recruit.net is current no where near a simple or detailed webpage- it is stuck in the middle.

In order to stand out from other competitors like jobscentral and JobsDB, both with really complicated and detailed webpages,

recruit.net should build upon their niche area- simplicity.

Simplicity stresses on the principle that it just takes one click to find the job of your want. The target audience can be anyone from the public with anonymous identity (no account). Although the results may be brief due to the lack of filtering, it still serves the purpose of finding a suitable field of job for users.

Hence there is a need to simplify its homepage for user's convenience, so that users can simply find their job in one click.

1. Remove the redundant (jobs listed in other countries)

Since the database is capable detecting your network country and thereby linking you to the correct country website, there is simply no need to include (job listed in other countries). Moreover, there is a toolbar at the top that clearly indicates your current search, hence further highlights the redundancy of the visually unappealing flags which only makes the homepage looks unorganised.

2. Auto programmed system only makes user frustrated.

2.1 What's the point of programming the system such that it is able to reflect your recent searches? I believe that by cramping the homepage with more data only defeats the purpose of making it simple and user-friendly.

Hence, i will like to suggest to remove the past searches as web browser like IE and firefox do store history. But for the convenience of users, a bookmark function should be included in the search results so that user can easily record the job they are interested in and come back to the same webpage again.

2.2 Completely remove the popular job categories since it is considered finding a job in detail, hence should be grouped under advanced search.

Since we decided to build upon a simple niche area, we should always stick to this idea when constructing the homepage. Hence, in great detailed classification like salary, field of job should be classified in advanced search. (elaborated in a moment).

2.3 There is no point in providing words for search suggestions when it only retard the whole process of finding the perfect job fast and simple

For search suggestions, it is a rather helpful tool in searching for the perfect job but it impedes the process as user have to pause, wait and choose from the list. Hence for a win-win situation to occur, i suggest to incorporate the search suggestions function into the search toolbox such that when the user type in a world, a dropped down list of suggested words will appear as well.

2.4 (number) of jobs listed for the last 30 days

Since it isn't a really proud record, i suggest we should scrap it too as it wasn't too impressive as compared to gmail's every second increasing storage space. To make it simple, scrap it instead since users will not be wowed by the statistics.

After removing these few aspects of the current homepage, i have final product of a really simple, google-style recruit.net

I have also designed a new logo as well with a new tagline- ONE click to income. I decided to suggest a new logo and tagline so as to make it more lively, refreshing, and the tagline further makes it a point that ONE CLICK and thats all. simple and fast.

Moving on, the advanced search is also too brief with not much details.

In order to find the perfect match for a user, we have to compare the prerequisites of empolyer and the demands of the job applicant.

Hence the advanced search page should include blanks (like those listed below) for user to fill in.

After researching for some general key fields for prerequisites, there are namely

1. Education Level
2. Work Experience
3. Nationality

If the job applicant meets all 3 aspects of what the employer wants, the search engine will process to see if it meets the demand of the job applicant. The 3 main demand would be

1. Salary
2. Part time/Full time
3. Field of industry

Hence after a really advanced search, the results displayed will be those that meet both the prerequisites and the demand.

Advanced search of recruit.net stressed on the principle of having specific personal results which resembles the idea job of the user. Results are few but specific that fits the bill of the job applicant.

Anyone can use the search engine but for users who have account, their personal data (eg. educational level) and demand of their ideal job (eg. salary) are stored in the database. Hence i suggest that recruit.net can have a 24 hours live RSS feed to their email for any additional available jobs that perfectly matches their liking.

In this way, the resume function can be removed as account members can easily receive notices through email when there is a job that meets their criteria.This allows users to be connected to recruit.net and ensure that recruit.net is always the best job search engine which provide updates 24 hours live.

Moving on, it is the search results page... few problems identified.

Firstly, too many advertisements.

I understand that recruit.net depend on these advertisements as a source of revenue for sustainability, but some of these ads interrupts while user scroll through the list of jobs. Advertisements on the side bar is perfectly fine, but we can find some ads popping up

before the first list of results

in the middle of the page

Hence, i think that recruit.net should seriously consider having sidebar ads only.

Secondly, lack of information in search results.

I don't find it important that it actually highlights all the searched keywords, but after reading the whole paragraph, i have completely no idea what is the job about.

Instead of showing words with keywords highlighted, i suggest that it lists out the brief description of the job post like what the job is, duties, workload, working hours and stuffs... Prerequisites of jobs like working experience, education level should also be clearly written at the bottom of 1 search result, and date/time posted should be removed as it is rather redundant.

Lastly, some of the wacky, creative yet practical suggestions for interactivity and providing the element of fun.

1. There should be new themed logos which changes along with trends like festive seasons.

Top e-commerce companies like google, yahoo, msn, ping.sg all have adopted this "seemed superficial" yet significant strategy. Hence, in order to catch up with trends, recruit.net can also come up with their own string of designs for their logos so as to spice up the homepage.

2. Secondly, a discussion board for recruit.net!

Discussion board is a platform where users(registered accounts) can give feedback/suggestion/complain to recruit.net instead of submitting through forms. In this way, discussions are more open and people can also share their job hunting experiences, recommendations on type of jobs, and etc with other users. This will definitely be an add-on for recruit.net as people will remember it as the place to find a job!

Lastly, a hotline can also be set up. This service will be catered for the age group of 40-60 years old who are not inclined in technological stuffs like Internet and computer. As they may get to know of the presence of recruit.net, but yet incapable of finding a suitable job online, they could call a hotline whereby it will selectively filter their particulars and demands, hence listing some final results. It is even multi-language, and bears trademark call number like 6464646.

Screw the cork on Christmas Nite!

what is a Christmas night when you don't have great delicacies on your dining table? No turkey for this year *sob* but at least there are still edible food. Initially, we thought of making a trip to town to immerse in the Christmas atmosphere just like last year, but roads are closed and streets are congested, so we decided to give it a miss and have a silent Christmas nite instead.

Although i'm not a Christian, and they are many who aren't too, we still celebrate Christmas just like any other festive season. But standing from a religious point of view, i personally think that Christmas is blown out of proportion.

Why are people so mad over Christmas? SMS floods at the 12am mark, non-Christians spammed greetings through all sorts of channels, people romp the streets and screamed like some mad cow who is just released from zoo. Perhaps its Americanisation, perhaps Christmas fall on the 26th which is very close to new year. No definite answer, but i believe sociologist like my sis can give a better answer.

Back to the Christmas night...

You may not know that my mum is a horrid chef. SHE CAN'T COOK! So please don't expect some really mouth-watering pictures coming on the way.. *=p i'm mean*

ok time to continue part 2 after a screwed up dota game (hate leavers men).

its really amazing to find American cuisines like Cheese Baked Rice/noodles in their menu. Aren't they suppose to be a traditional HongKong Tea Cafe? Perhaps thats what it means by globalisation to meet the needs of the customers...

so i order a sizzling hot baked noodles while my sis ordered baked rice and my mum got herself some queer looking Black Pepper Beef Noodles (she claimed she was quite full).

The baked rice arrived first and i have only 1 comment, below average.

It doesn't taste like those baked rice/noodles you can find in other restaurants like Pastamania or Vivo. And more importantly, they just dump that big fat piece of pork on top of the noodles, with a layer of cheese covering it. Exactly the same as the illustration below...

Do you know how hard is it to pry apart the piece of pork and eat the noodles when the pork is as hard as metal? Holy! I seriously have a hard time having my meal... My noodles are still quite fine. Its correct- spaghetti.

After struggling hard to devour that big piece of pork for almost 20 minutes, my mum is still waiting for her black pepper beef mee. After asking the waitress "excuse, where is my mee?" repeatedly for quite a couple of times, they finally served it.

LOL i can't figure out in any way does this looks like food from a restaurant at orchard. It justs looks like

Last week when i brought my ipod touch to ishop shop21 for repair, i went to the HK tea cafe for dinner upon my sis recommendation. (*will post for ipod touch will be on the other post*)

It has been quite some time since i savored HK famous food like

Really fantastic if you ever tried in Hong Kong.

After sending my ipod touch to the "hospital", we headed to the tea cafe (茶餐厅) for dinner.

As it was the Christmas period, the restaurant was packed with diners and the whole place was so cramped- partly due to the layout of the restaurant as well. There are literally no gaps in between tables and any random dude may just be sitting beside you! Maybe this is part of their plan to make good use of every acre of space ...

So we flipped through the menu and my sis order lychee tea and pineapple bread as the waiter say we may need to wait for 30 minutes for the main dish to be served. And we wait.. wait.. and wait, almost starved to death before we get some food...

The pineapple bun was served first.

WASALive! - the global form of ping.sg?

today while i checked my nuffnang account, i found out that some guy was actually referred to my blog thorugh WASALive! I was curious to find out what it was and clicked the [link], and i was linked to this webpage...

I was astonished. All the result findings were from ping.sg and when i roll my mouse over some of the post titles, you can actually contribute a pong if you clicked it!

I decided to explore further and searched for ping.sg and it showed all the latest pings from ping.sg just like what we see at ping.sg.

I am not sure if there is some sort of collaboration with WASAlive, or they actually can receive signal from all the world wide webs as they serve quite a number of countries. Apparently, you can ping your post on their website too. Maybe i should i give it a try.

Anyone have any idea what is WASALive?

Chelsea 4-4 Aston Villa (8 goals with 3 red cards)

thats one of the most thrilling contest in EPL this season as Aston Villa managed to grab 1 point from their trip to Stamford Bridge. chelsea vs aston villa is one of the first few matches which kickoffs the streak of EPL matches on Boxing day.

I am not sure why is there a tradition of playing 3 matches at one go- boxing day, followed by this weekend, and another one the mid-week after. The crucial 3 matches in a short 1.5 weeks may be a title decider although its too early to say so.

there is quite a couple controversial decisions by the referee and particularly, i will like to highlight the incident whereby pizzaro is brought down by zat night at the half time mark. its definitely a penalty but why a red card? i simply find it unjustifiable. its just a careless tackle.

i thought it was gone after chelsea netted the penalty and furthermore, Aston villa are one man down. But Aston Villa still managed to pull back 4-4 in the dying minutes.

After all, chelsea dropped points and thus, they departs them self further away from manutd and arsenal. cheers!

i had a hard time crawling up from my bed at 7.30am, rubbing my barely open eyes and preparing for a day in school (after near 1month plus of vacation). *tired*

as i reflect back, it's really time that i switched from my holiday-mood routine of working till wee hours and waking up for brunch to school life.

26th December- 5 days from 2008 and 7 days from the first day of JC life. its time for me to wake up before i find it really too late when stress come creeping on my back.

Truthfully, i am quite troubled by the new JC life that i will experience in 7 days come. I am not sure what to expect with new friends, new teachers, new learning environment and many more.

Consulted quite a few seniors like arzhou, vorny and guys and all have assured me that life will definitely be fun; but still do remember to keep track of academics as well. i understood that the crucial step to success in JC will be

Finding the balance for life and academics.

But i still remember my favorite quote:
"Self-awareness is always accompanied by change"

Many of the times, i knew what to do, whats the problem, how do change your predicament BUT we never do it. I am sure majority of humans do make this mistake as well. Hope that i can really find the balance in these both really important aspects of JC life.

Guess i have been deviating too far...
back to what happened today

Today i went back solely to let Mrs.Har vet through the poster, and surprisingly, it went on rather smoothly. She is quite satisfied with the overall design, except some superficial stuffs like spelling mistakes, language, paragraphing and alignment. It took us less than 30 minutes to clear it and timothy was still commenting...

Overall, quite satisfactory with some minor editing and we can send it for printing! Whereas for the 60-40% cash prize share, Mrs.har said she will discuss with the teachers before they confirm the exact ratio. Hopefully, we can get 50-50 =)

Mrs.Har even suggested us to use this project for next year startup competition and VBC-BBI competition. She recommended us to look for some college teachers as mentor and form a entrepreneurship group since we have research findings and a product as well. A suggestion worth consideration but up to this stage, no plans have been formulated yet. Maybe i will start forming this group after new year.

While i toured the school, i met quite a number of similar faces like Mr. Chong, Mrs.Seck (with daughter), Mdm. Lim (lab technician) and had a great chat with them. Really miss high school life.

While we depart for college section next year, the high school sections seems to be undergoing a great havoc. Lots of changes- new systems, new programmes, new teachers, new batch of students...

When I went back today, there are having sec1 orientation and painters are busy doing some last minute touch-ups at toilet block. From what i heard from Mr.Sng, the school plans to abolish the consortium system and even classes are no more arranged in 3A,3B,3C,3D.... There are new class tags like SC3 (if i don't remember wrongly), and classes are grouped in their special programmes.

Really dramatic changes after our batch of IP students, and i can't imagine what life will be for our juniors. we will still pop down and visit high school every now and then.

this is my first attempt to use photoshop for the whole poster, and i'm not really used to handling multi-layers and cropping out small pictures here and there. it's a rather tedious job with photoshop as compared to the more user-friendly powerpoint which i used for the past few posters.

this poster is more picture oriented and focus more on the combination of colours and designs to bring across the message rather than flooding it with words. however, im not really very pleased with a white background for poster as it looks a bit plain but after giving it a second look, white gave it a neat and simple feel.

this is the final product after hours of photo-shopping but it's only the first draft. going back to school tmr to let Mrs.har vet through before i do bits of editing and let the matter rest. (hopefully before 2008) =p.

F1 motor car racing in NUS

NUS ECE Attachment 19-30 November
(Second Part...)

Now lets move on the main objective of this attachment- to understand the algorithm behind remote-controlled vehicle and to build one from scratch. In short, we called it RC cars. Its supposedly a Year 3 project for NUS students, but the main purpose of getting us to do something that profound is to let us explore the unknown with the help of the student helpers.

Just an appetizer

I am sure most of us have at least played a remote controlled car when we are young. As the name suggests, it is basically a remote controller controlling a car- thats it.

It may looks really simple from the outside, but when you tried to produce something similar like those in the market, its really a mountain to climb. When we are young, or even now, we may just thought that its just a simple concept. thats what our parents told us too...

Shift the remote to the right and it will turn right.
Shift it to the left and the car will turn left.
Press the horn button and there will be sound.
Press the light button and there will be light!

Thats true though. Its a simple concept behind the whole product. Everything on the surface look simple but there must always be a connection link between the remote control and the car. Or else why do you think when you press something the car will move? Thats the only clue they gave us and we are expected to build a block diagrams when we are completely clueless?

"WTH!? they thought we are in year 3 ah?"

After hours of guidance, we finally got the most basic block diagram done. There are really foreign terms like wireless transmitter, wireless receiver, datasheet, breadboard and stuffs... But the daunting task is to transform the concept into a real product!

Initially, i do have some idea as to what's going on, how to connect the stuffs, how is it suppose to work... But when i was forced to understand even more physics theories and and programming like PIC micro-controller, i began to show signs of giving up.

Although its an interesting project on the whole, i can only conclude that i have no physics sense in me. It also assured me that i am definitely not for engineering, moreover the simpler physics.

*im sorry that despite so much persuasion, i have decided not to take triple science nor PCME. I have to look at the big picture...*

i guess its about time to start blogging about my NUS ECE attachment last month. Although its a bit late, i think it will be most appropriate that i record the faintest memory i had. =)

NUS ECE Attachment 19-30 November

Overall, there are gains and losses throughout this 1 week attachment. Its really great to experience something new during the holidays rather than locking yourself in the house, facing the same old 4 walls everyday for 2 months. Its really dreadful if you spend holidays in this way.

I made quite a number of new friends whether is it from our school or those brilliant dudes from other top schools. And i still remember those lame guys from NUS highschool, who treat de-ionised water as drinking water. And more importantly, they think its perfectly fine doing it! The helpers and i was utterly shocked.

=.=!

I was like holy! You know deionised bottle is something like this...

And they just press the bottle toward their mouth just like these nike water bottles...

And they still reply
"its fine what! we always do this in school"
....

Its really cool to experience university life as its completely different from our scheduled education.

Firstly, no more uniforms!

All home clothes, and you will be shock as how they define as their proper attire for school. Flip-flops slippers are rampant in school, very few put on their neat and tidy clothes, and they are just herds of animals romping the school campus in their pajamas. Quite a cool life im looking forward to =)

Next up is food.

Yeap, you have to fill your stomachs before you can focus in your studies. Food is definitely a very important aspect in school life =p. Canteens in universities are just like any other food court you can find out there. Except the fact that food still remains affordable despite the exorbitant rise in food prices. you can even find fast food restaurants like Macdonald's, and others like subway. COol!

Lastly, its Internet connection!

With campus wide wireless network and lan-ports planted in almost all walls, students are able to serve the net everywhere they go. Internet is definitely integral in this flat world, as it connects us to the outside world. Whether is it studying in tutorial rooms or lying on benches around (*there are indeed many), you can get connected to the internet!

Ok all these just craps! The truth is that Internet allows us to get connected (to friends via MSN messenger). It allows us to blog anywhere in the campus.

And lastly, it allows us to play DOTA!

Hahaha, thats the main thing. I brought my laptop on the 4th day so that i can design the car, but after few hours of crafting out the group logo + car design ~~+ msn chat + blog~~, i decided to explore more things.

I tried logging in MIRC ZION, and miraculously, it works! I even managed to join game! WOW, thats what i mean by university is more liberal. No restrictions- feel free to game at your free time!

*Normally, schools will ban game connections to outside ip address. *

The graduated student helper aka "Guardian Angel" even watched while i was playing! He was like

ME: "Eh, you also got play dota?"

"haha yea, you also got play ah"

"haha yea. after 5pm when everyone leave, we will off the lights of the lab, blast the speakers, and open our unofficial lan centre!"

WTH!

*shh, dun reveal this deep secret of NUS ECE department or they will lose their rice bowl =p*

That was how it started to become 2 days of DOTA instead of a holiday attachment. Quite a few joined in and he even invited me to patronize his unofficial lan centre. but sadly, they left without me as i was engrossed in my 1 v1 game. LOL!

if we are fated, maybe we will meet 1 day in NUS again =)

Presenting to you my new hot babe - the ipod touch!

After contemplating as to what to get among the last generation of ipods release earlier this year, i have finally decided to get an ipod touch. Initially i thought the tennsy-sized ipod nano will suffice as i don't really need those mega HDD storage space.

But after getting a feel of it, its really way too small and it doesn't serve the purpose of watching videos with it.

Hence, i gave it a thought of buying the ipod classic. Really cool and sleek, with "just-nice" monitor screen size. Great! i thought it was just for me.

But it was until days before im off to taiwan that i made a 360 degress change in my decision. As you guys may know that the broadband market- with 3 key players of Singnet, Starhub and M1, are offering really luxurious deals with free gifts such as nintendo wii, laptops, desktops, xbox and finally the ipod touch.

I spotted quite a few dealers who are interested to sell of their ipod touch from their broadband deals at a much lower price than retailers. After negotiating with some of them, i finally settled it for 410 bucks. (its selling at 498 in stores...)

In bid to archive pictures real fast, i will be blogging on these random stuffs that happen ~~ages ago~~ sometime back. life tends to get more boring when you have nothing to do at home. i really have nothing much to mention in my blog unless something special requires your attention.

Long long time ago..... (during class chalet)

My friend and i decided to take a stroll along the beach, and i tell you- the road was daunting... i wasn't kidding. i took quite some time + some effort to walk from the bicycle lane to the beach to catch the breathtaking view of the sea. I was stunned as to how great the beach was maintained. Even worse than Malaysia's....

just some random post to clear some pictures. rewind, rewind, rewind back to few months back- the day in plaza singapura. i notice really something interesting while i was stoning in the ground level. do you find that the layout of G200 shop really weird?

Initially when i thought i was having a deja vu, when i remember walking past a G200 shop somewhere. Then i looked back, and realise "oO, they are actually two shops just a stone through away!"

I went to explore further, and found out that there is some sort of a small passageway that connects these 2 shops.

But i was really puzzled...

"Why is there a random shop that divide these 2 similar shops?"

"Are they trying to cut down cost by renting the small little space in the middle?"

im sorry for not keeping to my promise of blogging (really fast) but i was off to malaysia for today. no more 2 posts/day for today, but at least 1 single post to round up today's life.

It is a rather abrupt decision but come to say of it, there isn't really anything much to prepare for a shopping trip to malaysia. after all, it's just about crossing the causeway and you reach a country of worlds apart. (i'm rather mean but thats the truth) Whether is it cost of living, security, people, currency, laws and many others you can think of, its completely different from Singapore.

Its just like heading to town for a shopping trip, but this time, you need is the extra thing that can allow you to travel the world- passport.

*the definition of world excludes the presence of north korea*

yeap the formula to a 1 day short trip to malaysia =

(money is definitely a must, or it simply defeats the purpose of going... unless you plan to be a beggar ~~on the streets~~ on the roads.)

all in all, its a meaningful trip although i have only managed to reach the "furthest" i can go- city square.

Food- nothing to say. Its comparable to Singapore but the price is much cheaper especially when food prices in Singapore are rising exorbitantly. in fact my father mentioned that the food in malaysia is also rising with the trend perhaps due to its distance away from Singapore. 2+ bucks and i can enjoy delicacies like claypot rice, thai food and many others.

Even restaurants like Macdonald and vivo serve the same good quality of food at a much cheaper price. that explains why Singaporeans are willing to make a trip to Malaysia even just for 1 meal. im not joking- there are people who went in , dying for food.

Shopping- simply great. i'm not really a die-hard shopper who strolls down orchard road every weekend, looking desperately for sales. i buy it because i need it, not because i want it. the trip to taiwan wasn't really satisfying cause there is nothing but food and girls stuffs. its just so hard to find something for males. (will elaborate more in the official post)

hence i have no choice but to find something to wear for the new year (2008). its part of our traditional culture to wear new clothes for Chinese new year, hence the need to buy new jeans and tees. my winning possessions for the day-

im sorry for not notifying before closing down my blog yesterday night. something cropped up and i have to deal with some copyright issues with regards to the source code of this blog.

For the clueless, i don't really wish to continue elaborating on what happened. but i think it has died down after i exchange a few emails with li0nheart. the master of blogskins is really a kind guy. thanks wang guan for your kind understanding... its fine now, and the court is just a nightmare. i was really worried that night, especially when i saw the word "sue". * opps *

within this short period of around 24 hours, i realize how dependent i am on this blog. i literally stoned in-front of my laptop- simply nothing to do. i thought of blogging yesterday night but when i read the message from li0nheart, i think its best if i close down my blog for some time to settle this issue.

but now as i reflect back, i realize there are lots of stuffs to catch up with. many thing happened this week, but i have yet to pen down my thoughts on my blog. even the NUS ECE attachment and the taiwan trip which i promised to blog is still no where to be found.

im sorry for the lack of posts ever since i came back from taiwan, but i do have ~~excuses~~ compelling stuffs to settle- really busy this week.

For those who pop down my blog these few days, you may have notice quite a few updates and changes in my blog.

Let me start from the posts section.

After sticking to the original, old, boring colour and font for quite a couple of months, i have decided to give it a refreshing new look. The whole idea of this latest update is to stick to my principle of not checking the entire design, but make minimal updates on the template so as to present a fresh look.

From the type of fonts, colour, and overall layout, i hope you guys will find it more visually appealing and most importantly, legible.

Next up would be the newly launched (time+mail+comments) bar .
lol what a cool name.

after some feedback that i should a comments function to allow readers to voice their opinions, and the tag that josh lim left in my tagboard ~~recently~~ few months back, i decided to take prompt action and add in the haloscan comment function.

Just need you guys to follow some basic instructions...

as you know, the tagboard still remains as it is. hence, the function of the comments board is only used for personal opinion targeted to that specific post, while if you are a stranger who dropped by or a friend who come to say hi, use the tagboard instead.

I will accept all comments- whether is it positive or negative, but no junk, crap and useless feedback is allowed.

Lastly, a new logo for my subscribe feed icon cause the previous one seriously sucks. After rounds of photo-shopping, the final product is finally done. Simply Lov'in it, and you cant find it anywhere else.

Look out nuffnangers out there- the email for the latest movie screening organised by Nuffnang has been sent out, in fact 30 minutes ago. I was still excited and hope to stand a chance when i saw the in-coming message, but all hopes are down the drain when posts by posts titled "What is our National Treasure" popped up on ping.sg homepage.

I thought its time to give up. After all, i was really that keen in participating in this movie screening.

But from my observation, i can conclude that

Either Singaporeans are really that kiasu.
Its just a replication of the Macdonalds Hello-Kitty saga, free gifts in departmental store, and all the other you can think of. Free tickets so why not?

Whats the first thing i do when i switch on my computer? Definitely its the same old routine that i missed while im away on holidays- login to MSN, check my blog, and then my e-mail. After clearing a couple of e-mails while i was still in taiwan, there is still many in my Inbox after a few days. Some are spams, while others are important emails such as in-coming ads like the enchanted movie.

While i was trying to browse through my email, i was quite shocked as to how it turned out.

100% Distorted.

Initially i thought it was just a browser error with firefox, and i tried with Internet Explorer. But it turned out as bad. Yeap thats the "new hotmail"...

Quite pissed of with it, and even after few hours, the error remains unfixed.

Reasons why my taiwan trip sucks!

This time i'm really back- blogging in front of my babe.

7 days in taiwan is really a memorable trip- with stuffs we may not bear to leave and things that we detest as well. Personally for me, i have a neutral stand as to the overall experience, or rather more towards a bad experience.

The first question that people will ask you when you come back from overseas is always

"how was the trip"
or in Chinese
好玩吗?

And for this trip, i can only say

不好玩!

I'm not sure why i hate this trip to the core when others feel that it is really a good trip, and they would really like to go back again (Check footnote LOL) Maybe i have too high expectations of a overseas trip, of what a qualities a tour guide should have, of the overall experience in taiwan.

In terms entertainment/food/nature wise, i really enjoyed much. Whether is it restaurant or street food, whether is it theme parks or arcades, whether is it mountains or gorges, i really have to admit that its really great.

But apart from these, the impression that a tourist will leave is the country as a whole. Like what we will write in essays, the impression of a country consists of not only the tourist attractions, but also how to country functions and how the people behave.

They have really boring tourist attractions such as visiting a so-called historical heritage for 1 hours plus, when what you do is to take a stroll in and out of the area. And currently due to political disorder, they are changing the name of the place. In fact they have successfully changed the name (Check the latest news if you have completely no idea what i mean).

From what i know, the itinerary for this trip organized by Chan Brother is considered one of the best taiwan trips you can find, as compared to those offered by other tour agencies. I seriously cant imagine what you will get if you are from other agency. Perhaps, thats the best taiwan can offer.

In my opinion, it will be better if you go on a free and easy tour.

Sorry for deviating too far, and "previewing" so much stuff.. I will continue on the trip experience in few days time while i get the pictures ready. In the mean time, i will blog on the some random posts and NUS ECE attachment 2 weeks ago =)

Yo-z!

I finally got the the spare time to find a computer station, surf the net in peace, and blog! I'm really freaking bored in taiwan, and wasn't satisfied with this tour thus far. 4 days gone and the same retarded routine repeats day by day. Guess whats life in taiwan?

Sleep and Eat.... its like wth.I can sleep like 3 hours straight in the bus, woke up, took a stroll in some temple (and its more than 1 temple !?), return back to my comfy seat and its slumber time. Actually, it isn't really that bad. It was rather exaggerated cause i was really bored today.

All in all a brief summary of my 4 day, or in fact, 5 day here. (you will understand why...)

1st day- damn sian

2nd day- sian

3rd day- not sian

4th day- not sian

5th day- damn sian

You maybe be wondering what do i mean by 4 day/5day. It was a so called 7day tour in Taiwan, but the first day was friday (the last post), where i took the flight at around 12am and reached at approx 5am, and the take-off of the plane is the line that sperates the first and the second day.

The tour started off really bad as almost all of us are literally dead, with blood shot eyes. Really ZOMBIES! Its really hard to catch a good sleep in the airplane, espcially when it is midnight flight, and you are expected to get the day going when you reached the destination. Really damn shit. its just like the exam period when i mugged until 5am, take a short nap, woke up at 6.30am, and off to school for exams..

It sounds really like a torture tour to taiwan, but there are really interesting stuffs there as well. Visits to their so-called "tourist attractions" are indeed really bored to the extreme, but other stuffs such as their night market, food, and entertainment is NO. 1.

More picutres will be coming on the way when i'm back in Singapore!

wohooho hello guys! this will be my last post right before i board the airplane to taiwan. i will be back on the 8th december, and thereby announces the start of a 1 week hiatus. I'm sorry to dissapoint you with the lack of posts for the next week, but i promise that i will try to update on my holiday life in taiwan if i manage to get internet access, and will be back with more photos!

In the mean time while i'm away, i will be opening up my blog show room of skinlusion debut launch. After my laptop accompany me through this year of ups and downs, the 4 sides rectangle build of it was damaged badly, with numerous scars and stains all over her body. Although i have transformed her default window XP layout to something even cooler than a vista computer, her looks still remain as dilapidated.

But after spending some time researching for latest facial solutions, she is a beauty both inside out! I finally received my long-awaited laptop skin!

It took literally a few months before i receive this mail! Wohohoo.

Did you see the new mouse beside my laptop?

Could you believe that i changed 3 mouses within 6 months. WTH! After my small cute mouse turned faulty, my mum said "no more exp wireless mouse for you! you shall take the cheapest one in the store"....

Ok fine. Hence i have no choice but to choose this travel-pac mouse which looks nt bad.

After near 1 month of experimentation with this mouse, the mouse spoil again.

zZZ! Wireless mouse adapter faulty, and now, even wired mouse can lose connection. For god sake, it has a 3 year warranty and its dead after 1 month... My mum went back to Harvey Norman, but the salesman asked her to bring the mouse back to the company for repair. But after rounds of complain and nagging (yeap thats what my mum is good at), the manager changed a new mouse for me- same price, but different design.

And tada! I got a new mouse (again) !
